EuroPhilEx 2025
EuroPhilEx 7th - 11th May 2025
EuroPhilEx is a major international stamp exhibition held every five years in the United Kingdom. For the first time ever, Britain has decided to move its international exhibition out of London and stage it at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham.
Royal Mail issued a special Europhilex overprinted and individualy numbered (7500) version of the Dame Vera Lynn Minisheet from the World War II: Valour and Victory stamp issue. The timing was especially poignant as the 80th Anniversary national commemorations of VE Day took place on the 8th May 2025 – day 2 of Europhilex.
The Royal Mail Exhibition sheet commemorates the introduction of two stamps following the end of the Second World War. The 2½d and 3d stamps were issued in 1946 to mark the nation’s victory celebrations, with the theme ‘Symbols of Peace and Restoration’. Various artists were invited to submit ideas for the stamps and after much deliberation, work by Edmund Dulac and H L Palmer was favoured and taken to essay stage before being approved by King George. Postal Historians will be interested to note some of the other designs which were considered for issue but not taken forward. In honour of the 1946 British victory celebrations, paired with each design is the commemorative Union Flag First Class stamp. Available for the first time at EuroPhilEx stamp exhibition and issued on 7 May 2025 Numbered, limited edition of 5000
