Stamp Sheets

At the International Stamp Show 2000, Royal Mail introduced the customised 'Smilers Sheets' to the general public. A set of Royal Mail Greetings stamps were available in an A4 sheet with a label attached to each stamp. By going into a booth,  customers could have their picture taken - 'Smiler' which was then printed onto the label beside each of the stamps on the sheet. Royal Mail realised that collectors would want these sheets but not necessarily with their own images on them, hence the Generic Smilers Sheet came into existence - Royal Mail printed a set of related images on to the labels and produced an illustrated border. 

In 2002 Royal Mail allowed organisations and businesses to produce their own designs for the labels on the sheets to promote their own events, celebrations or business. This has resulted in  a new area of collecting as many of the sheets produced were low run productions and consequently are scarce.

Royal Mail have developed the  Generic 'Smilers' Sheet further to include Commemorative and Souvenir sheets. Many of these are numbered limited editions. We do not normally sell any of these sheets, however, Royal Mail usually stock their own for up to a year - sometimes less if stocks are exhausted.   

N.B. Royal Mail retails these sheets above the face value of the stamps contained in the sheet. This also applies to the customised sheets produced and retailed by businesses and organisations. Hence covers bearing these stamps and labels are not always widely available.
